Title: 1158 c - problem after installing software upgrade 6_640
Post by: kerv on June 24, 2013, 06:36:03 PM
hi      I recently upgraded my 1158 c with the 6.640 software update.
Happy with the new feature of being able to stop the track - something I have been missing on earlier versions.
However, after the update I am experiencing a change in the echosounder image: at depths greater than 50 meters the outline of the bottom is somewhat blurry. This is a distinct change that comes at exactly 50 meters, have tried to go up and down along the 50 meter contour and there is clearly a difference - at 49,9 meters depth the bottom outline is normal, at 50,1 meters it starts to go blurry.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here, is there a setting I need to change or something?

I have same thing. Fitted a 1158c in February. It had the original SW version 5. something. Sonar picture was fine then updated it with the 6.610 and the sonar picture was shocking, very pixelated, thought the new 6.640 would improve things but it produces soft sonar images, almost like thepulse length is too long.
I emailed Humminbird but they weren't very helpful, infact didn't seem to read my email properly and deal with the question I asked.
I'm now trying to find an earlier european SW to upload. Why the hell do Humminbird not keep old versions of the software for us if they keep screwing up new software.

hi all    lifting this topic again as I am at my wits' end here... have tried all possible settings but can not get a decent picture.
At depths of less than 50 meters it is not too bad, a bit more clutter than I had before updating but I can live with that.
At 50 meters pluss it gets a lot worse - sonar picture is pixelated, sonar returns seem weaker, picture movement across the screen is not smooth like before but sort of starts and stops.
Have noticed that when I change the Noise Filter setting from "low" to "off" things change quite a bit - bottom contour readings are somewhat better but I get a lot more clutter.    I was very happy with the sonar before I updated, but the way it is at the moment it is pretty much useless!
Is it possible to simply go back to an older version of software, or does anyone have any good suggestioins what to do?

Kerv,
I don't know how to resolve the problem with this software update. I had exact same issue, I checked out your observation at sea yesterday at 50m & have tried all settings. None of them resolve it.
I asked Humminbird to provide the old software & although they couldnt get me the 5.2.*** version, they did send me two other older versions which I will try this week.
Contact them & ask for the previous software

Hi Kerv, I updated with the 5.500 software & was very pleased with the sonar.
See my thread http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=5870.0 (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=5870.0)
I posted some pictures so you can judge whether you want it.
