Integrel Software "ContourXD?"
« on: February 05, 2012, 05:07:00 PM »
I have searched everywhere for some specifics about this GPS map software but can find almost nothing detailed about it. How is a prospective purchaser to know if this will be enough to meet his needs or if he's going to need more expensive chips?

Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places?

Well fortunately base maps come with the units bundled Lowrance or HB. Unfortunately the old saying
you get what you pay for holds true.Base maps for the most part just give you a location and image of the lake.
Enhanced chips with HD, contours, and numerous other options come at a price.I personally use Lowrance an
Humminbird units along with there base maps and also different chips.I suggest you either find someone that you
can personally see there map page work or go somewhere that displays the units and check them out. Gary

My unit is before ContourXD, I think it has contour lines whereas the older unit did not.  Below is the information from Humminbird's site also below that is their video about it.  I hope it helps.

Basically until you actually use a unit on your lake you will not know if it is good enough for you.  Probably at some point you may want to purchase a card.

"We’ve upgraded our free, built-in cartography software on the 700, 800, 900 and 1100 Series™ Combo models.  All-new ContourXD™ by Navionics® is an enhanced, professional mapping package.  With over 3,000 U.S. lake maps in the database, you will be able to find a lake close to any location you might want to wet a line.  As an added bonus, ContourXD™ maps will feature depth contour lines, so you can find all the drops, bumps and channels holding fish.  The maps will also include U.S. lights/markers, and major roads and interstates.  Fish like a pro on your home lake, or a lake far from home, thanks to Humminbird® ContourXD™"

You can see a list of the lakes offered in the ContourXD maps by following this link:

If you want detailed and updated mapping data there is no way around it: you will have to buy a mapping card(s).
