Title: 898 Wiring question
Post by: Stumpy on November 07, 2013, 05:39:14 AM
I've just upgraded from an 858 to an 898 and I was going to try and use the original wiring from the 858, but I've noticed on the wiring that came with the 898 there's a moulded plastic thing a few inches from the pin. My question is what does this do and will it have any effect on the new units(898) performance if I don't use it ???? I also don't remember seeing one on the 858's wiring and am yet to stick my head under the dash.

Stumpy,
That is a ferrite-choke that is used to filter out unwanted electrical interference.  If you do not have any electrical interference than you would not notice the difference in which power cable you used.  The problem is that you will not know that you need it until you see the interference.
