Networking 2 898c HD SI's
« on: February 11, 2014, 08:49:16 PM »
Im hooking up 2 898c HD SI.s. I have ordered a 5 port ethernet switch and all cables that I need from Humminbird, which will be in this week. When I get everything all hooked up I will be running seperate transducers to each unit. Im going to share the console GPS with the bow unit. I will also have my Terrova I Pilot Link hooked in to the ethernet switch. All of this seems simple enough. My question is when I get everything hooked up can I put the 898 units into simulator mode to set all the network settings or do I need to have it in the water to setup. Im sure the transducers will be grayed out during simulation but will they be selectable will the GPS show up etc. I hope Im making sense.

I think that you will need to be in the normal operating mode to set everything up.  This does not mean you have to have the boat in the water and you should be able to do it with the boat on the trailer.  I would make sure though that this is outside where the GPS Receivers can lock onto the GPS satellite signals.

Thanks again Greg I was afraid that this would hurt the transducers. I wasn't sure if they had to be submerged.

Im going to share the console GPS with the bow unit.

Are just going to use 1 GPS receiver or are you saying you're going to share waypoints?

Both, I have a GPS hooked up to the console unit already and I was going to share it with the bow and that should allow me to share way points also.. That was my assumption anyway??

It will.

To get better accuracy in marking waypoints and getting back to those waypoints, you really need the GPS Receiver(s) to be as close as you can get them to the transducer the unit(s) is/are using.
