Ice Fishing Project with Quadrabeam Ducer
« on: June 26, 2014, 12:05:06 PM »
Yeah I know it 90 degrees in the shade but I like to plan ahead. Anyway since eyes not getting any younger thinking about taking my 899 out on the ice this winter. Have several choices for ducer but thought I would try the quadrabeam plus.

I had one laying around from previous purchases but have never tried it. Has anyone had experience with these ducers in a no speed condition. I like the idea of being able to see out to the side. But don't know if motion is required to take advantage of this ducers capablities.

My ace in the hole is using an ice ducer itself but it limits me to just 2d imaging.

Thought maybe someone here had either tried this setup thru ice or while being anchored.

Well at first glance it appears to work. Took down to state operated docks. No fishing allowed there until after boating season. Since in normally is 15-16 foot deep thought I would try it. Walked out on end pier put transducer in water. For some reason did not appear to be operating normally. Recycled the transducer choice to quadbeam and this time worked as it should. No fish were observed until I went to end dock. Then I sit there and watched the quadbeam detect several fish of all sizes swim by. Moved back to where no fish were observed before. Same result no fish.

Going to test some more before winter. But I think this idea will really help for fish location in winter.
