Title: Ethernet 5 port switch
Post by: BrianL on April 29, 2014, 12:38:20 PM
2-3 Questions on 5 port switch ethernet switch box.

1.  Does the 5 port switch draw power?  Or is the power only on when a head unit is powered up?

2.  There are 2 versions of the ethernet 5 port switch box.  One can be updated?  Evidently there's a 2nd version, which I don't have the model# of (AS ETH 5PXG???).  What is updateable that would be beneficial?

I currently have 1198, 798ci Hd SI, an 1198 external gps receiver, 2 transducers, and I'm at version 6.74 software.

Thanks,
Brian

Good questions Brian.

1. The 5-Port Ethernet Switch is always on if it is connected to power.  It has its own power connection.  If it were my boat I would have the ability to switch the power to it off somehow.

2. The newer AS-ETH-5PXG can be updated (through the unit software).  There is no benefit to it today but only because there has been no software updates for it yet.

So it sounds like the AS-ETH-5PXG ethernet switch is the way to go, but does anyone know where to get a hold of one?
