Title: mounting a 700 series on the bow
Post by: crawdaddy on October 23, 2014, 02:12:48 AM
I have a 14' jon boat that I fish out of. I have a 998 aft and a 788 on the bow. This is my second season with this setup and I directly mounted the 2 directional factory mount to the bow of the boat. I can see now this will not hold up for the long run. On a flat boat when it gets wavy out the bow can bounce and slap on the water's surface pretty good. The screws holding the unit on the boat have backed out and also the 2 directional mount has become very loose, causing the unit to flop forwards or backwards when running in choppy water. This sometimes causes the unit to shut off which must be because of the power connection momentarily losing contact. Was wondering what people think of the RAM mount for this size unit, and if that small ball will hold. Perhaps there are other mounts worth considering? Also, is there any way to "tighten" the factory 2 directional mount? If not I think I'll have to buy another mount and a Ram Ball and socket mount as well. Thanks in advance!

No, there is no way to tighten the factory mount.
