Title: Help me with base point settings for my new 999 please.
Post by: BrokeLoser on February 19, 2015, 02:35:57 PM
I fish saltwater exclusively in depths of 60'-300'.
I know I'll need to play with it on the water a bunch but if someone could help me with a good starting point I would greatly appreciate it.

Under the Sonar tab ...:
*Beam Select
....200kHz for bottom detail ...
....83kHz for fish echoes ...
....2000/83kHz for fish and bottom ...

*Surface Clutter ...:
....higher to show more clutter ...
....lower to show less clutter ...

*Switchfire ...:
....Clear Mode in shallower water and adjust Sensitivity up to acceptable clutter on display ...
....Max Mode in deeper water and adjust Sensitivity down to acceptable clutter on display ...

83kHz Sensitivity ...:
....adjusts 83kHz Beam without adjusting 200kHz beam ...

Noise Filter ...:
....Off unless there is interference showing on display ...

Max Depth ...:
....10-20ft deeper than actual water depth to allow unit to function more efficiently on pings that might not find bottom ...

Water Type ...
....experiment with all choices as algorithms are applied differently to each for clutter/noise/water particulate/etc ...

Always adjust Sensitivity settings as high as you can stand a certain amount of clutter ... Filtering out all clutter from the display also filters out weaker echoes you may want to see ...

Chart Speed in the Xpress menus are global meaning the same for 2d/DI/SI ...
....use higher Chart Speed when viewing 2d only to get the maximum amount of screen refreshing ...
....Chart Speed to match boat speed when viewing DI or SI ...
