360 imaging transducer
« on: March 26, 2012, 10:28:02 AM »
Hi guys

Does anyone know if it will be possible to connect the new 360 imaging transducer to old 798ci si (2010 model, not HD). On cabelas website in product description it says that older not Ethernet units will require software update. Is Humminbird planing to release new update to avail these new transducers to older, loyal users? ;)

"Loyal users" don't mean squat.
If you have a unit that is too old, then it might be time for you to upgrade.

My understanding is that you absolutely have to have ethernet, because the
360 is a ethernet device.
Also, if you have an older unit with ethernet, HB may provide an update that
will allow it to work.

I have an 1197c which is over 3 years old now, but it does have ethernet.
It's still questionable whether the 360 will work with it or not.

it's not even 2 years old yet (bought in Sept '10) so I don't think I'll be upgrading any time soon.
besides I love this fishfinder, it's portable and has everything I need and I can create my own maps using Dr Depth so I'm happy

but having an option of 360 while you not moving and standard sonar/SI is much less use would be great, mainly for perch fishing

is there any way to connect it to non ethernet unit?

No there is not.  The 360 Imaging was designed to be used only with an Ethernet capable unit due to the amount of data that has to be transfered to the unit to be displayed.

Yaro.  Another issue is the 360 is a bit bulky and will not lend itsself to a portable arrangement..

The other problem is that you would have about 2 times as much money in the 360 as the 798.

If you really want the 360, you could probably sell the 798 without loosing too much on it and upgrade to the 898 which will support the 360.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

@Chuck
I realized that after looking closer at cabelas video.

@Bob B
I could upgrade to 898 but it wouln't be portable anymore and that's quite important for me. I have to drive 100-200km to the lakes I'm fishing and the roads are nothing like in the USA so it's handier to rent a boat at the moment.
If I'll move closer in the future and buy a proper size boat then I'll probably upgrade to bigger ethernet unit and 360 imaging.

Did anyone had a go with it on the water yet? Is it working as good as you can see on their website?
Side imaging wasn't as good and easy as they advertised it but it still helps.

It's not supposed to be available until August, so nobody knows the pros and cons
of it yet.
