How to upload tracks to an 1198c
« on: January 13, 2013, 04:04:39 PM »
Hi all
I am new to this forum and using a Humminbird (1198c SI), and I cannot figure out the following.
I will be working in a very remote area off the coast of west africa for which no Navionics or Lakemaster map exists.
I have the coastlines however of my area as a GPX file, where the different parts of the coast are tracks.
When I import the gpx file to HumminbirdPC, it shows them correctly, also when viewed in Google Earth.
Next, I upload them to an sd card, which I insert in the Humminbird unit.
I then get the message "loading waypoints and tracks", and it takes a while to process.
Then, I get the message "no new nav data found"
When I then try view the map at different zoom levels, there is no way to view the new tracks - only the build-in base map is shown.
Ideas on this very welcome
Han

Han, there are a great many posts on the forum dealing with just what you are asking.
For example this post http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=4955.msg30733#msg30733....
If this one does not help try entering searches at the main panerl tab and look for your question (and answer) in a previous post..

thanks Chuck
The post you point at did not provide the answer -I do insert the sd card after the unit is powered up.
Looking through the different posts I could not figure out what the problem is.
In the "Waypoints, Routes, Tracks" screen of my unit, the new tracks are not added, even though the unit says it is loading them (but then followed by this "no new nav data found" message"
Help appreciated
Han

OK, that was the most recent. There are others that have to do with file type. Some that reference duplicate names to list a few.
Again a search or several searches may produce your answer.
a lot have posted with issues similar or in relation to what you are asking.
spend a few searches and see what else comes up..
Try going to the general discussion part of the forum and page down thru the posts looking for something similiar to yours..

Thanks Chuck
This is indeed an excellent and extensive forum.
However I have searched through it and did not find yet an answer to my problem.
Most posts state to just create the matrix with .ht files in the HumminbirdPC (and check they are correct in Google Earth), andthen inserted the sd card in the Humminbird (1198cx SI) (after it has been turned on), after which  they should just 'appear'
But nothing happens in my case case after I have selected to add the new map data.
I hope someone else can help

I contacted my Dutch supplier (Ribbink Nauta) about the problem, and he tried it out on different types of Humminbird units.
He reports the following: uploading tracklogs and waypoints (.ht files in a folder call matrix on an sd card) works on all HB models  up to the 858. But on all higher models it fails! The unit then reports (after reading the data) "no new nav data found"
Suggestions urgently welcome - tomorrow I have to leave with the equipment to Mauretania and will be out of email contact for the whole trip
tx, Han

OK, get with us on the return. Maybe your dealer will have more on this.  Or someone else here on the forum...

Here is the strange thing.
When I save data on  the 1198cx to an sd card, next delete the data on the unit, and re-insert the sd-card, it loads the data correctly.
When however if I import data to HumminbirdPC created elsewhere (like import from a gpx or from a kml file), they do show correctly in HumminbirdPC and the Google Earth viewer.
But if I then upload the track coming from elsewhere to a sd card and insert it in the 1198cx, it does not read the data ('no new nav data found').
Attached a sample track  (000.ht) that my and any other larger units (900,1100 series) do not seem to load, but the smaller ones 5-series do.
Also the source files (both as kml and gpx) attached, all in a zip file.
Any solutions very welcome
tx Han
