Title: 998csi versus 1198csi performance
Post by: Jasta on May 28, 2011, 05:31:45 PM
Other than the size of the screen is there any significant performance difference between the 998 and the 1198?

I have a 797 interlinked with a 997 and am frustrated with performance issues related to the new Lakemaster (MN) chip capability.  the Screen paints really slow and now I've found that there is a limit to the number of waypoints you can have for a particular lake and in total that is way below what the units are supposed to support.  (I'm running current software on my setup)

I'm thinking about moving my 997csi to the bow, selling my 797 and then purchasing a 998 or an 1198.

Jasta,
The only differences should in the size of the display and the backlighting of the display (the 1198 uses a brighter LED type lighting).  All other functions should be equal.

Who told you that there is a limit to the number of waypoints for a particular lake?  The limit would be the maximum waypoint limit for your unit.

I've got the new Lakemaster MN 2.0 chip and the Lakemaster Contour Elite Software.  I uploaded all of the waypoints tracks and trails from my unit into Humminbird PC.  I then studied a single lake (Medicine) and identified several hundred targets (waypoints) and about 30 tracks (Lakemaster has you create Target Areas using tracks).  I then exported the lakemaster data to Humminbird PC and merged with my existing data.  IN total, I had about 1900 waypoints and 51 trails.

I deleted all data from my 797, my interlink and my 997 (multiple times) and loaded my data to my 997.  When I would turn on the 997, the unit would crash and reboot.  I then went back to Lakemaster Elite and reduced my targets to about 200 and deleted ALL of the trails.  I merged the data again, deleted all data from my hardware and then uploaded again.  Same result.

It wasn't until I only loaded the 200 targets(waypoints) for Medicine Lake that the unit finally performed ok.  It behaves like a memory limit issue...  Screen painting with the Lakemaster chip on my 997 is EXTREMELY slow!.

Jasta,
I did not know that you were using someone else’s software to make the waypoints, tracks and routes.  I checked and there is a known problem with using routes made from the LakeMaster Contour Elite (Strategic Fishing Systems) software.  We have had a few reports of this.  Once of the Engineers stated that when he used the latest software in the Humminbird unit that the problem went away.  What software version are you running in your 997 unit?  The latest is version 5.450 for the 997 unit.

Yes the huge Lakemaster mapping cards run slowly in these older units.  They were not originally designed to handle the larger mapping cards that Lakemaster and Navionics now use.  The newer units handle them much faster.

I'm currently using software version 5.45 and the 50 channel puck.  Looks like I need to upgrade my console unit to an 998 or 1198 and then sell my 797.
