Title: New 2012 units
Post by: edwardpic on July 15, 2011, 08:15:19 AM
Greg, Any idea when there will be more information or a projected release of the new units? Will it be a full release or beta release? Thanks

Not really Big E.  I know what you saw in the video and what was sent to me in a presentation (basically what was stated in the video).  Typically the larger units come out just before Christmas or up to a few months afterwards.  I do not have access to any project time lines so this is just a guess based on past years.  We are not coming out with as many new models in the Humminbird brand as we have in past years so maybe this will happen faster for the big units – I dunno.

X-mas does sound like a good time to release new units...If you hear anything please post...We all want the latest n greatest electronics...Its the gadget factor...HB already has great equipment and nice to see they will be incorporating some of the features I've seen on here members talking about...The video said DI, will it have the same SI as well like the 1198's?...I know thats a question that probably cant be answered right now, but thats my main question, well other then price!!

Thanks for the response Greg

Request to humminbird.   lets fix the problems with the current units and wait a bit to release any new problems...
It cant be all about money.....
Unless the new units fix all of the old problems... ::)

Chuck,
It's not ALL about the money, just 99.9% of it is. :)

Humminbird can't sit still.   They have to keep coming out with new products to get new customers.  That's just the way it is.

I'd venture to say that every single model (old, and new), will have some sort of bug or needed fix (software and/or hardware).

I would think that reliable products would sell better than "new" products with problems..
I for one would like things to work out of the box...
Oh well.  I dont work in marketing (any more)....

Big E,
I believe that the new DI units will have the same DI sonar as in the 2011 DI units meaning one DI sonar beam instead of a combination of two SI beams for the DI sonar.  I am further guessing that the specs for the sonar will be the same as for the 788ci HD DI and other current DI units.

Remember guys that we don’t just jump up and design new units over the Summer.  These have been in the pipeline for at least a year or more.  Our Engineering department is working on some of the reported problems and at the same time working on the 2012 model units (as well as the 2013, 2014, 2015… model units).

And with Radar as a new option, that's just one more block of code that
needs to be integrated into all the appropriate units software,
and then tested.

New technology marches on and with new anything comes new problems to work out.  It's all good.  Keep goin Humminbird.  Keep doing what you do best.

I'm ready for fish species recognition and approximate fish length and weight measurements on each fish icon. :)

It all can be done.  It's just a matter of money and time.

Im most excited about the radar option and the NEMA 2000....The video said DI version, hope they also provide an SI model. Ive never used just DI before on my units now...Any new product has bugs, and they all can be worked out, just have to remember that and not freak out!!! Its not like a bug here and there is the end of the world....ALL brands have some sort of quirk....Funny to see some post "jumping ship" over them, when some of the time its end user wiring or install NOT the units themselves.....I hope to hear more info soon on the 2012 units
