Hallo Chuck. Yes i have done that and it says unconnected.
I have tried also bending the pin with the results that 1 pin broke off.
Do you need all 4 pins or just the 2 pins to the receiver?

That's bad.
I'm sure that two pins are for power.
One for positive, and another for negative.

You need at least three pins: one for power, one for ground and one for the communication to the unit.
I think at this point you will need a new GPS Receiver but let’s be sure by testing your 998 unit on someone else’s boat that is also running a Humminbird with an external GPS Receiver.  It does not have to be another 998 unit as any of the GR series of Humminbird GPS Receivers will work for this.  You can even test it while the boat is on the trailer.  Just be sure to plug up the power, transducer and GPS Receiver even if you have to do so by hand.

Thanks for trying to sort things out.
I am on the moment in west africa (Gambia).
I am the only one with a HB 998 here.
The sonar is still working so a can still fish.
I live in Finland and Spain, after 2 weeks i fly back home and will contact the dealer.
I think the problem is in the HB 998.

Usually GPS related problems are in the GPS Receiver itself as all the unit does is provide power to the GPS Receiver and display the data that is sent from it.

Chuck i hope that you are right about the receiver is broken.
When i switch the HB998 on and look to the self test it is ok.
I have a boat in the Gambia and the receiver is all year in the hot sun.
Is this bad ?

It does sound like the receiver.  Could be a broken cable or a damaged cable. Check for connector and or cable damage.

These receivers have an upper temp range but certainly sitting the the hot sun over time could have an internal effect.

Do you have another HB user that you could try your unit on their receiver? It does not have to be an 898..

Yes the USA and International receiver is the same..

Sorry for the late reply, but we have here a lot of power cuts in the Gambia.
No there is nobody in Gambia with this HB.I have to order a new puck.
Do you know a online shop in America that sales them. The prices are big difference between europa and America.
