Helix 10 MEGA SI transducer for 300-400 feet of saltwater
« on: October 07, 2018, 03:29:41 AM »
Hello, i just switched from garmin to HB and realized just now that i might have made a mistake.

The unit i got is coupled with the XM 9 20 MSI T transducer.

I usually fish in fresh water 10-40 feet so that wont be a problem i guess, but once or twice per year i go offshore to fish
and then usually its 60-400 feet of depth in saltwater (80% of the time less than 120).

Is there a HB transducer that will help me achieve this or will i have to save up for an airmar transducer?

The garmin unit i had with a 500$ transducer could follow my lure down to 300 feet of water, and mark fish to 400 no problem.

Thank you.

Higher frequency imaging sonar will be challenged at deeper depths simply because higher frequencies attenuate (absorb) into water more readily than lower frequencies  ...

Common 2d sonar (83/200kHz) does operate at lower frequency than imaging sonar but may still be challenged at your target depths  ...

HB does make a SOLIX MEGA xducer with 50/200kHz 2d (XM 14 74 MSI T)

I do not see a HELIX MEGA xducer with 50/200kHz capability on the HB website  ...

You can call HB to see if there may be future HELIX MEGA xducer with 50/200kHz capability  ...

When you call HB you might also ask them about a Y cable Setup that possibly could use one of the 50/200kHz  2d xducers  ...

Look in your "Connected Transducer" Menu under the Sonar tab for optional xducer selections that include "50/200kHz"  ...

This will indicate which frequency combinations your unit can transmit  ...
