Title: 798C uni-map question
Post by: johnson56 on April 28, 2010, 10:16:34 PM
I recently installed the 798c on my Ranger. I've looked through the book trying to find and understand the HB uni-map. I'm not sure what maps are installed on my unit if any. I've looked through the menu on simulator and can't find anything. Can someone pleaese help understand the unimap. Does it have local lake maps if so how do I find them? Or do I need to buy a Navonic card to get the details I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance

From what little I know, you might need the Navionics card.

I have the 898 myself and all kinds of stuff comes on that but you will still need a detailed chart chip for your unit...good luck.

The 2010 units come with ContourXD maps.  Prior years have Unimap.  Mine has Unimap and has the outer contour (no depth) of most lakes and major rivers that I have been on in NY.

You can add Navionics or Lakemaster SD cards, but they are not required to view the internal supplied (Unimap or ContourXD) maps.

Get a gps lock on your position and then use cursor controls to move to the biggest lake in your state.  That should be in Unimap.   There is a list of lakes that come with ContourXD posted on this site.   Pick one of them, if you have a 2010 unit.
