Title: Mounting my Helix 7 DI/SI
Post by: Sewerdude on August 16, 2016, 12:00:33 PM
Hello all, my first post! Glad I found this site!
I just got a 2017 Ranger RT188 and I had the dealer mount the electronics which it seems to have been a mistake and the dealer did apologize.
But I know I need to remount it, I bought a transducer board to do so. My question is where??? As you see in the pic it is mounted very low, and for some reason they mounted it right underneath the trim tab. Which is a small piece of aluminum that Ranger installs to reduce porpoising.
They dealer said to mount it to the left of where its at, but Ive seen pics of the same boat with it mounted to the right of where its at. I understand I need to be away from any rivets and strakes.
I dont have any kind of jackplates on the motor, its normally mounted. So where do you guys recommend I install it?
Thanks![attach=1]

How high your boat hull rides while on plane will determine where the xducer needs to be mounted ...

Have someone drive the boat on plane and peek over the transom to see where "clean" water flows out from under the back of the transom ...

"Clean" water will be the same color as the lake color ... Any white colored water coming from under the hull is aerated and not a good spot for optimum xducer performance ...

Once this "clean" water area is determined ... Mount the board centered on this spot ... which will give xducer tweaking room left and right ...

Follow this diagram to align the xducer with the bottom of the hull ...

Thanks for the reply and the diagram! I do remember looking over the transom as I was watching a 6 ft rooster tail coming up from the transducer since it was down too low and I did notice where there was the cleanest water.....So it does look like I'll be mounting it to the right of where it is mounted now.
Thanks!

You can put a piece of starboard on there and not have to drill new holes in the boat when moving the transducer around.

Yes, I did buy a transom board to mount the transducer.
