No fuse inside the unit Adrian.
This other unit that you tried; what model was it?
If it does not use as much power as the 898 unit it may not be a good test of the wiring and battery.  Try connecting your 898 unit to another battery to test it.

The problem at the connection cable to the unit. Poor contact. You can fix yourself. Need a thin and sharp object.

Use a small screwdriver to slightly push the pins outward to help with connection.  You can tell if they are loose when you pull on it and it wiggles off easily.

Be carefull when doing this, you just need to push the pins out slightly to help.

Good luck,

Is there a customer service center in your area?
Is the unit under warranty?
Can you return it to where you bought it for service?

In Europe nobody want to fix\repair my unit, why??? because i buy the unit from US!!!
When my unit leaves US, i loose the waranty(my unit is in ,,Humminbird Select'' clasification)
I try to send my unit in US for repair, now is the only option.

Humminbird Select program only for the U.S. and Canada.
If  do not help to correct contacts, only in U.S.  Alas, in Europe there is no service center and does not seem to be never. :(

Outside the U.S. can no hardware errors are fixed. :( The "service center" in Europe to send units with hardware problems for manufacturers in the U.S. and the oft with gigantic delay. The repair of my 898er lasted over 5 months. >:(
Therefore send equipment itself, which goes much faster.

I understand ,i don't want anything for free,i want to repair my unit and i want to use at fishing, that's all.I dont want warranty,i don't want Humminbird Select....But i dont think is normal,in my opinion.I pay for this unit my  salary on 4 month ago....and i use this unit 1 year (purchase in february 2012) whitout the winter(5 month in Romania,a lot of ice!)

Hi Fishi

My unit was repaired free of charge after the warranty :). Do not open your unit self and send it directly to the manufacturer!!

Good luck
