Title: Zero Lines Card/storage options for Helix 5 SI GPS G2
Post by: tailortom on June 07, 2018, 06:13:23 AM
Hi all

Firstly, sorry I wasn't sure which section I should post this, I initially posted it in the Lakemaster Autochart section then realized it should probably be posted in this section.

I recently purchased a Helix 5 SI GPS G2 for my fishing kayak and am really enjoying it.
I love the autochart live feature and the fact that you can map at 1 foot contours and include bottom hardness and vegetation.
I think I am close to filling up the internal memory and now need to look at purchasing a card to extend the capacity.

I'm in Australia and will only be using it in the sea (not inland lakes).
I have done a fair amount of research and believe that i need a ZLC (and not just a standard microSD card) to enable me to keep mapping new territory with the Autochart Live feature, even if I'm only using it offshore.
Is this the case?

I was initially looking to go down the path of Autochart software that comes with a ZLC but am finding it pretty expensive - it seems a lot more expensive here than in USA.
So my next (and cheaper option) is to just buy a ZLC and rely on the Autochart live feature within the Helix to create all of the maps I need.
My options for this seem to be either buy the Australia Zero Lines Card which retails for A$220, or purchase my own microSD card and purchase the download from Humminbird chartselect at A$135.

I notice it is specific about requiring a 32GB microSD card.  I already have a 64GB card that I was hoping to use to keep costs down and enable extra storage (as the Helix only has one card slot).  Has anyone tried this or does anyone know if it will work or is it definitely only the 32gb microSD card that will work?

If it has to be the 32gb does anyone have any suggestions on how I can prevent the card filling up too quickly?

Many thanks.
Matt
