360 back to 898 transducer issue HELP!
« on: May 03, 2015, 03:02:44 PM »
I installed the 360 a while back and it is awesome.  Switching to sidescan, using the 360, is easy and works well.  One issue I have had is depth does not show with the 360, but I am in water that I know the depth.  My big issues is this:

I have 2 separate transducers for my 898.  1 is on a fish and the other is on a pole.  Since I installed the 360 they don't work.  Both seem to not be read by the head unit.  My setting is right (high def sonar).  I went to the set up for the 360 (last tab on the right) and unclicked the 360 and clicked on the 898si.  Still nothing.  I restarted the unit.  Nothing.  I went back to the 6 series software as I had to install the 7 series for the 360 to work.  There is no depth tab or reading and it acts like it doesn't see either transducer (898).  I checked the pins and they seem to be bright and shiny.

I reinstalled the 7 series software.  The 360 works like a champ.  The head doesn't seem to read the standard transducer.  No clicking in the transducer when checked (both).

My 898si transducer Both) worked correctly until I installed the 360 software and transducer head.  I really need to use this unit tomorrow in deep water (hence the towfish) but right now I am dead in the water.

I am hoping this is something due to poor instructions and I have missed a click somewhere.  Can anybody help?  Mark Michaud

I'm not going to be much help here because I don't have networked units or accessories to check the system setting choices ...

You might disconnect the 360 Ethernet cable from the head unit and see if the unit will recognize your SI xducers ...

If it does ...then it is a network setting that someone here with networking experience can help you with ...

I posted on another board and maybe this is more clear than my original post.

898c si 360 issue
I have an 898c si. The software is 7.51. My 360 is also up to date with 2.3. With my 898 I have 2 transducers I use. One is on a pole and it mounts on the front of my boat. The other is on a tow-fish. Until I installed my 360 (bow mount) both, standard transducers, worked fine.

I installed the 360 and have been using it. As it also does side-scan I had not used either of my other transducers until a few weeks ago. The waters I was working in were fairly shallow so I didn't need to know the depths. I use my unit to locate lost objects and drowning victims. A few weeks ago I was prepping for a trip to Kentucky to find a missing man in a deep cold lake. I grabbed by regular transducers and went out on my boat. Neither transducer would show on the unit. The 360 worked fine but the transducers were not recognized.

I played with the settings for a bit and in the 360 tabs I "named" the unit by hitting save. Now the 898 transducer showed up. I then tried to use the standard transducer (the ones that always worked fine) but they would not scroll or show an image. I checked my manual and saw that each transducer had a different name on the diagram. Mine all show the same name, which is a number. Maybe this is the issue, but I don't know what to do as the manual seems to be vague as it was probably written by a person that knows what to do but did not communicate it quite as well.

I selected the 360 and both 360 and side-scan worked perfect. I selected the standard transducers and nothing. No image, no temperature and no depth. But, they do show on the 360 network source setup screen.

Power to the unit is 12v. I have been using Humminbird side scan since 2007 or 2008 so I am experienced with this equipment. The 898 was purchased in 2012 and has been great. I have to think there is a setting issue that will allow the unit to use both the 360 and standard transducer as it is supposed to. The manual states you need both to get temperature and depth so I figured it would be automatic in reading both.

I will attach a few screenshots and hope someone can help. I have been in contact with Humminbird but so far no solution. Any thoughts that can help? Thanks. Mark Michaud Slidell La.ila_renderedila_renderedila_renderedila_renderedila_renderedila_renderedila_renderedila_rendered

You might think about joining this forum with your networking question ...

Greg is out of pocket and I have no experience with networking ...

It took a while but I think the problem is solved.  After many emails back and forth Humminbird told me to do this........  My SD card had the 6 software and the 7 software (or firmware) on it.  I was told to delete the 6 series and leave the card out and see what happens.  That seemed to do the trick.  The transducers is clicking again and it is scrolling an image.  I haven't been to the water but I know this is what it should do.  Thanks Humminbird!

Thanks for the feedback ..... That will help someone else out.

That is the kind of thing I never would think to ask someone, because I never have more than one update on the same card.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

I'm confused ...

Why was the SD Card with the software versions still in the unit ... ??

Are you using the same SD Card to hold software .bin version and to collect snapshots and recordings ...??

Yes.  The manuals are pretty vague and an electronics master I am not.  1 card, upgrades and screenshots, for everything.  I had no reason to know any better.  I do now.  Until I installed the 360 everything worked fine.  There was nothing to say not to do that so I had no idea.

I agree the manuals are sometimes vague ...

We (users) try to fill in the gaps (of info) at the forums together ...
