I Pilot Link Follow the Contour
« on: May 25, 2015, 06:56:08 PM »
I am having trouble with my set up "following the contour" I have reviewed Doug Vahrenberg’s YouTube videos,, I have followed The technological Dr videos, I have updated software on both he Humminbird 899 HDSI unit and the Ipilot controller. The commands come up fine but when I turn the prop on the boat is not moving to the course or contour I have selected. It is not doing anything other than following the heading that it is pointed in. I-pilot link is working, the auto-pilot is selected to allow the ipilot to control the direction. What am I missing? Thanks in Advance

I'm pretty sure it has to be Lakemaster 2.0 for the follow the contour to work.

Not according to the CD case that the software came in it clearly states that the feature is part of the program but thanks.

If you are running updated software HB has warned to remove I-Pilot from 8XX, 9XX and 11XX units because of conflicts. I was having trouble staying on a route with my 899 the last 2 times I went out after updating software. I also had to return my 1159 because of shutdown loop. Eric

It is only the xx9 series but that is what the OP has. I don't think that is his problem but,yes he should unhook the ethernet connection to prevent the 899 from locking up and require sending it in. Bob

OK, so I am confused. The Mid Atlantic version 1.0 was just released in Feb-2015 from LakeMaster. The 899SI Humminbird is suppose to support the software. The software came in a SD card format (Digital?).

Bob, Are you saying that HB has recognized an issue with communications on the 899 and that I need to send it in to be corrected? Or wait until a bug fix is released? Or are you saying the 899 will just not work with the follow the contour command?? This is the main reason I purchased!

If I unhook the Ethernet, does that not disable my other features? Spotlock? Waypoints? ETC...

Thanks Again!

If the Lakemaster card is a 2015 release, it should be the "digital" version of the Lakemaster card.

There is a Unit lockup problem that the others are referring to associated with the x9 series units and the I-pilot.  I am not sure if it was posted on this forum or not ...... but here is a link to the info on another forum.

What software are you talking about that came on a CD?

RWE, sorry if I confused you but, what I was trying to say was that there has been a directive to disconnect ipilot link from the 899 until humminbird issues a fix. I do not think your issue is related to that software issue. For the time being it looks like your best option is to disconnect the ethernet and run the "link" independently for the time being. Then attack the other problem later.

Thanks Bob for the quick reply, I called Humminbird and they said a new release should be out this week... We will see... I hope that is my issue, the follow the contour and contour offset from the bank as well as spotlock are the main features I use. I appreciate your help, will let you know if the next release remedies the situation!

Tight Lines...

There is a patch to fix the lockup problem .... check to see if it is in your account for download .... If not, call Humminbird.

I don't think it's going to do anything for your follow the contour issue though.....You might want to give them a call about that.............I did see a post from someone else who said they had a problem with follow the contour and they had to remove all devices from the network and reset defaults on all units and then re-connect the network......It might be worth giving that a try, because you should reset defaults before and after installing an update anyway.....I always do an update with everything disconnected from the unit.

Thanks Bob, Yes, I have saved the latest file (7.650) onto an SD card, running 2.150 version for link controller and 2.040 for the link remote. I will not be able to check it until mid June however due to schedule conflicts. I will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks Again for your help!

I went out yesterday and was able to stay on course trolling for 5 hours without any problems, couldn't make it past 2 or 3 way-points before latest update. Humminbird did a good job getting a fix once seeing the problem. It was a pleasure to be out and not have problem after problem and needing constantly correct. Eric

The v1.0 cards should have an i-Pilot logo on the card & will work.  ;D
The v7.650 update should fix any issue you have with your 899 communicating with the i-Pilot Link.
I had a LakeMaster Michigan card that was NOT link capable & I own a v1.0 and v2.0 LakeMaster  Great Lakes and both are Link capable.
HTH...
G'Luck!
