The post on crappie.com was written by Joby @ Humminbird so it's for real.

I for one and tickled pink that this change is coming to the firmware.

I was just thinking to myself that they might do this.  They were suppose to have the updated waypoint managment software on this unit a long time ago and I wondered why it was taking them so long to do that for the 898 unit. They already did a waypoint management for the larger screen units.  So what is taking them so long to get this done I asked myself.  Then it dawned on me. Perhaps they are doing something else with the software too?  The one thing that I know everyone really wanted was to be able to see more of the SI actual images on the screen instead of blocking the left side with 1 to 2 inches of text over the display.

So I was surprised that they did this but not that surpriced.  I'm very happy that I purchased my Humminbird 898 C SI now.  This is a great present for the next fishing season.

Thank you Humminbird for giving up these firmware updates.  My fishing has been a lot more fun these days due to the SI development.

The only persons I could confirm this with would be Joby (who wrote the post) and his boss.  So I would take it as fact.
