Title: AIS Reciever with 1198
Post by: houtxfdcapt on July 06, 2020, 01:31:07 PM
Hi guys, new to the forum, glad to be here.  I have a lot to learn.

I ordered an AIS.   It will be receive only.  I have no NMEA2000 hooked up on the boat.    My question is if I go straight from the AIS N2K out to the 1198 N2K in will it work? 1198 has the round N2K right.. the search on the site referred to the 1197 with only the RS232? or do I have to install the bridge with power.

Thanks so much!

Not familiar with using the AIS receiver with HBs but found the attached link related to using a receiver with RS-232 output.  If you are able to use one with NMEA2000, it would require the Humminbird AS ETH NMEA2K adapter and backbone.  The 1198 is NMEA0183.  Good luck and would definitely try to get confirmation/info from Humminbird.  I know HB used to have a AIS receiver but was discontinued some time ago and would assume current unit software may restrict which AIS receiver models may be even compatible.
