Humminnbird Interference
« on: April 09, 2013, 12:01:04 AM »
I'm getting interference on my 597HDCI DI have tried everything.
Running off cranking battery
Trolling motor wire on oneside of boat, electronics on other
grounded TM housing to TM battery negative.
Chokes for the Transducer cable and the power cable

Nothing worked.

I had a second boat pulled up beside mine, I plugged it's power source into my 597DI and left the sonar cable plugged in on my boat.  Still got interference.  I then moved the transducer several feet away from the trolling motor and put the units noise cancellation on high 1.  it got rid of the problem.  the closer I moved the transducer to the trolling motor, it gradually got worse.  You have to be about a 1.5ft from the TM in order to eliminate the interference.  Once I plugged the unit into the power source on my boat, it got increasingly worse, as expected.

I plugged in my 898SI into the power supply and the transducer that was giving me problems and I did not see the interference on the 898SI.

I'm running a Maxxum 70# and I understand that the digital system the trolling motor uses to conserve power is causing the problem, but it is ridiculous that we spend this kind of money on these things for them not to work out of the box.

Does Lawrance have these same issues?

Yes, RF Noise can happen on any unit and any brand!  Its not the Unit, its the Trolling Motor causing the issue! Check out this Article on Trolling Motor Noise.

Where did you get the chokes? Did you get the TM Interference Kit?

Call HB Support and they should be able to help and will do what they can to get it resolved.

That would be a negative.  Did they send that to you or did you have to buy it?

They sent it to me when I dealt with the RF problem in 2010...

(I have heard that sometimes they are reluctant to send the TMC 1...depending on which unit/TM/wiring configuration setup you may have)

You may have to ask firmly (but politely)...if ...(big "if")...you have already tried all HB's suggestions and still have interference...

Just got off the phone with them and they are sending me one at no charge.  I had to nicely but firmly explain that both the trolling motor and the depth finder are new and they both came from essentially the same company.  I let them know spending $1600 for items that do not work together is a problem.

Thank you for the info.
