Is my standard 2D function broken on my HDSI transducer?
« on: May 15, 2013, 04:23:43 PM »
Everything seems to work ok, side imaging, down imaging, GPS, maps, except the 2D display (all 83/200 settings) now shows solid, "garbage" on any views that incorporate it.  Also, the depth is not working or most of the time it is not.  The depth seems to work mostly when just displaying any side/down imaging.  What part of the transducer is used for depth?  The 2d or imaging?  Or something else?  I tried new level of software 6.64, went back to 6.18, same results.  Reset factory defaults when installing software per instructions.

I do not seem any visible problems with transducer or cable or pins.  Plus the other features work. Is my transducer "broken"?

Do you have a Y cable installed ?  with in hull or highspeed ducer   if so remove it from the unit and plug transducer direct to unit and try it . I have seen a couple cases where there is corrosion in the cable internally  and caused exact isssue ,

The water depth is taken from the 200kHz 2D sonar RBrad.

Is there another sonar unit on when this happens?

Does this happen only when the boat is moving above a certain speed, when the trolling motor is running or when some other piece of electrical equipment is running?

If possible, try testing your Humminbird unit on another Humminbird transducer.  It does not have to be the same model (unless this is a DI model unit you are talking about), just plug up the power cable and transducer to test.

Image while in boathouse with the HDSI transducer set to 200kHz, depth not correct and solid clutter, no adjustment change it.
I connected transducer from my trolling unit (585 unit) and it works.  Good depth 2.7ft and image.
Must be my transducer?  Bought this in May 2011 so I think warranty is up.  So I suppose buying a new one is solution, no kind of repair/exchange?

It does sound like it is your transducer RBrad.
Since you bought the unit/transducer almost two years ago I don’t think that it would be covered under warranty.  Did you happen to register for the Humminbird Select program when you bought the unit?  If so it may still be covered.

Final Update.  I see some threads that describe a problem, then potential solutions, replies, etc, then the post ends without any final resolution or closeout.  It helps to find final solutions, etc if possible.  So I am doing that.

I did sign up for Humminbird Select so my warranty was extended one year.  I was right at two years.  Humminbird replaced my transducer.  I mounted it today and everything works back the way it should.  The depth reading works and the 2D sonar 93/200 kHz displays work.  So it would appear the old transducer was defective.  No signs of cracks, leaks, pinched or cut cables on the old transducer.

Thanks to Humminbird and Greg for taking care of me.
