Hey,

I'm new to all of this, but here is what I think is more important than the color versus b/w issue; the 570 DI has a resolution of 640v x 320h, while the 596c HD DI has a resolution of 640v x 640h. I was leaning toward the 570 DI at first, but was talked into the 596 as it should have noticably better display...

Thanks for the input/reply.
I guess I need to consider budget and IF it will do the job.
This unit is replacing a unrepairable 400TX on the front of my bass boat.
I use it in water no deeper than 50 ft, staying on top of structure while vertical fishing.
The transducer is attached to to bottom of the TM.
I am NOT sure of the 640 by 320 vs 640 by 640 is an issue.
Maybe more replies here will help me with that.
Thank you.

For comparisons, the 400TX is 160 X 160 pixels.

But, higher pixel count does not neccessarily mean sharper, more detailed info on the screen.   Best to look at them side by side in the store in demo mode.  You will probably see less difference on a 2D screen, so focus on minute detail on the Di.

DI will help you find good structure, but will not really help in hovering over it.  The 2D screen will probably be better for that, especially if you are trying to track your jig/bait height.  Staying on location, or returning to that spot, you are best to get a gps combo.
If it bends my rod, I'm a happy fisherman.

Good that you pointed out the fact the 570 DI has better pixel count than the 400TX I am forced to trash.
Your leaning to the fact the higher count does not mean "better" has my attention.
I WILL get someplace and look at them both in demo mode as you suggested.
The 570DI has a split screen for DI and 2D with that transducer #   XNT-9-DI-T
This web apge shows that rather clearly, If i am interpreting correctly.

I do feel, for what I am doing with it, $300 for a 570DI is a heck of lot better than near $600 for 596.
My "main unit" is color and with all the bells and whistles, DGPS, etc. including near breaking the bank to buy it. lol
This unit does "serious searches and the like".  The old 400TX was to keep me where I wanted to be when seated and fishing.
I do thank you for your reply.

I still run a 400TX at the bow, and was just about to replace it with a 788ci, when these DI units came out.  Now, I'm watching and waiting, again.  Contemplating...

Let us know what you decide and come back and let us know how it worked for you on the water.

Will do fuzzy.
Thanks again for all the input on this posting.
BTW: I just left a friends house and this subject came up.
Here is a deal I cannot refuse.
He told me he would get me a 570DI and IF I did NOT like it after a week, he would replace it with a 596.
He manages a marine dealership close by and I never knew he handled Humminbird.
I didn't ask questions, but I assume IF i returned it he would simply put it on a used rig that he has for sale and
the beat goes on.  I am sure he cannot do that for everyone, but I am going to take him up on it as soon as
I see him again and get to his place in the next day or two. This scenario will allow me to either prove or disprove the ability of the 570DI to do what I expect {no risk either! lucky me! lol}
