1197c si high speed transducer
« on: January 01, 2014, 09:05:02 PM »
Hello,
I have a 1197c si that I would like to run two transducers with, the si transducer and one for on plane bottom reading
Can someone please tell me which transducer I will require.
Also, I will be adding a 998c si unit to the bow with the si transducer mounted on the trolling motor.
Which is the best way to connect both units?

Thanks,

Louis

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Louis.

If you have a fiberglass boat your best chance of getting high-speed depth readings is with an inside-the-hull transducer.  The XP-9-20 is the transducer you will need for this along with the AS-Si-DB-Y cable to connect both transducers to your 1197c Si unit.

To connect the 1197c Si and 998c Si units together you will need an Ethernet Connection Cable (AS-EC-XXE).  These come in different lengths and the length of the cable is in the part number and replaces the “XX”.  So a 2-foot long cable will be the AS-EC-2E, a 10-foot long cable would be the AS-EC-10E and a 20-foot long cable would be the AS-EC-20E.  There is also a 15 and 30 version of the same cable.

My boat is a Lund Pro V, so a through hull is out of the question.
Thanks for the info.
So If I'm understanding this right, with the Ethernet cable I should be able to use either transducer at the Stearn, or the trolling motor from either unit, right ?
Do I need two gps pucks or will one work for both?.
Also do I need two of the identical Navionics cards. I have an older Gold card for the 1197 but will only be able to buythe new larger gold card for the 998 unit.

Thanks for your help,

Louis.

Here is a link to an old post that shows how I rigged the transducer on my Lund. (near the end of the post)
I am able the get good 2D to 20mph this way. May give you some ideas.

Louis,
With an aluminum hulled boat you would need to use an externally mounted transducer like the XNT-9-20 or do something like newkid4si posted.

Yes, if the units are Ethernet connected you can set one unit to use the other’s transducer.

You will need a second mapping card for your 998c Si unit.  The units read the mapping data right from the map card.  They do not copy it to their internal memory.

Thanks Greg,
You have been a big help.
I was thinking that was the way to go but I have read so many different posts that I was somewhat confused.
It's going to be a long winter waiting to get my set together and back out on the water.

Thanks again.

Louis.
