Title: Solix issues
Post by: Skeeter07 on June 17, 2018, 07:01:36 PM
Have the latest software.  My problems seem to be in shallow water. I have it set to clear mode and depth range set to auto.  Depth will jump from correct depth to like 500, 1000.  Is there another setting I'm missing?  Also have had sonar and side image, and down image freeze and half to reboot them to unfreeze.  Anyone have these issues with solix units?

You might try setting your depth setting to slightly deeper than the water you are in rather that the auto depth setting. Using the auto depth setting can sometimes have the problem that you are experiencing depending on the type of bottom that you are over.

Lots of discussion here on digital depth issues  ...

Here is a note from the Helix Series operation Summary Guide I question.
Page 5 Note under Set Maximum Depth
Side imaging units default to SI range setting if the SI Range is set deeper then MAX DEPTH.

Does this mean when I am in a lake that is 12' deep and set my Max Depth to 15' to try to avoid bad digital readouts and my SI is set to a scale of 60' I now have my Max Depth at 60 feet also?  This could explain why setting Max depth has not helped fix the digital depth read outs.   I also understand that shallow water and hard bottom and give several echos but not enough to show 500 and 1000 feet.   These 1000 foot holes in the 12 foot max depth lake I fish just mess up Auto Chart Live and keep me busy editing my charts.  Humminbird needs to fix this not just keep telling us to do the things that don't work.  Don

This is also how I understand it  ...

The discussions now seem to suspect the 83kHz  ...

You might experiment with shutting off the 83kHz (Medium in a CHIRP unit)  ...

In the process of changing settings from BBC post.  What gets me is there isn't one place (master) where I can go and turn global settings off for all views. So if I have 12 favorite views and 5 of them have 2d chart I have to go to each one to turn off global settings.  Same for chart, SI, DI.  Am I missing something?  And again got over 10k in electronics and won't even perform correctly on factory defaults.  You have to jump through hoops.  Thanks for responses and help.

In global settings you turn off radar and other settings from what I've read.  I have to check my global settings and turn off all that I do not use or have connected.  I believe there is a max depth in the global settings that should be no more than 10 feet deeper than your deepest expected depth.

Old post, but I have found that you need to switch the Chirp from auto to High only.

This is in the main settings menu as I recall and should do it for all views.
