1198si screen issues!
« on: September 04, 2012, 03:20:49 PM »
My screen occasionally will turn yellow in color then turn back to the selected color screen chosen. This is becoming more frequent. This happens with both the si and regular ducer. I manually switch between the two because I have fried 2 SIDI Y cables this spring trying to use my air-mar ducer with the si ducer in my Grady White. This is a whole different issue that humminbird is suppose to be addressing by getting the said parts from Air-mar and testing themselves. Back to the screen, what would cause the screen to turn yellow?
Thanks

Never heard of this before BCLII.  Does only the Si and Di sonar readings do this or does it happen to the 2D sonar readings, the maps and the digital readout boxes as well?

This just effects the 2D. The colors of the palate(?) Selected, I use #2 blue/red and it turns yellow then back to the blue/red. Only the things in color (bottom structure, fish, surface clutter, ect.) not the whole screen, turn yellow.
thanks

Okay, so only the 2D sonar readings are turning yellow.  What Sonar Colors menu setting are you using?  We do not have one labeled blue/red.  Could it just be that the sonar readings are turning yellow due to the signal strength that is being shown, as yellow is a color that is used in many of the Sonar Colors menu settings?

The color setting is palette #1. I run this color setting most the time on 2D. I never had this issue on my 998si and 858c I ran last year on my ranger, same water. NO issues with my 788 HD is year. It has to be something with the 1198si.
Now with my SI transducer plugged in the start up tells me NO transducer connected. It does not go to the normal mode at power up! What's up with that.

Power the unit on and force it into the Normal operating mode and see if you have a temperature readout.  My bet is that you do not.  If the temperature sensor went out the unit may not be able to automatically detect that a transducer is connected.

Forcing a unit into the Normal operating mode:
 - Power the unit on as usual, but while it is showing the Title or start-up screen (shows something like: “Humminbird 1198c Si Combo”), press the MENU button and wait for the screen to change.
 - When the screen has changed it should show three different options.  Use the Up Arrow button to select “Normal” and then use the Right Arrow to activate it.
The unit should now be operating in the Normal operating mode just as if it automatically identified a transducer as being connected.

I’m starting to think that something is wrong with the sonar on your 1198c Si unit with the 2D sonar readings turning yellow and the AS-Si-DB-Y cables getting “fried”.  I don’t know of anything else that could cause the yellow sonar readings unless that is the correct signal strength level to be shown for those sonar returns.  Any chance we could see a screen snapshot of this?

Yes,  no temp. I will try to get a screen shot tomorrow, as the big lake is pretty rough today with winds in the mid teens. I am using a kindle up here not sure if I can get it uploaded. May have to wait until I get home on Friday. I appreciate your input Greg!
