Screenpatronus screen protector
« on: March 02, 2010, 03:06:24 PM »
I received my Screenpatronus screen protector that Robert suggested....

http://stores.ebay.com/ScreenPatronus

I'll have to admit..after 2 tries with the Zagg invisashield with unsatisfactory results (at $30 a pop)...the invisashield from Screenpatronus ( $12.50)was much easier to install without getting bubbles under the protector...

Now, it could be that I am just too picky..or maybe, too impatient to wait for the Zagg to dry..hoping the bubbles would go away....either way..I just was not satisfied with the Zagg protector....the more I tried to work the bubbles out...the more frustrated I became....

The only concern I have with this product from Screenpatronus is that there is a notice in the package that states the product should be changed every 2 months if it used in an outside environment....Hmmmm....  ::)

I guess time will tell....

Does anyone  have life expectancy estimates over 2 months with the Screenpatronus invisashield...??

I have had mine on for over a year!  I do keep my cover on when not in use, but I am sure most do!

No problems here after 1 year!

I removed both (2) failed attempts of the Zagg installation....BUT....I removed the protector within 5 minutes of installing because I could not get satisfactory results .....with no bubbles.....

I do not know about a Zagg protector that has been on the unit for longer than 5 minutes.....

I do know for a fact that the Zagg protector has a lot more glue (stickiness) than the Screenpatronus.....

I have never used any of these, but was going to put on my new 798 and 1197 units until I seen this :o Wouldn't these films yellow after a few years?  Not sure now I want to put a $20-30 dollar item on a $2000.00 unit or am I worrying to much on these screen protectors?

The zagg product comes with a squeegee and a spray. If you have cleaned your screen first and then followed instructions, you spray the shield, your screen and your fingers. Then apply the protector to the screen. You may then maneuver the protector in-place while it is still wet. Then gently use the squegee to push the remainig fluid out the side. Another helpful hint; the plastic trim ring around your screen will pop off with a gental coaxing and a small screw driver. This will make the installation of the protector a lot easier.

I had a Zagg protector on a 797 for two years and had no problems. But I always remove my units from the boat when transporting to and from the lake. If I were to keep it in the water I would put the protective Humminbird cover over the screen.

Hi rnvinc

It has been over 2 years since your original post... How is the screen protector holding up? Have you tried to remove it at all? if so did it damage the original coating?

any info is appreciated

Thanks Keith

I still have the original Screenpatronus indicated in the OP above...

It still looks as good today as the day I installed it...
(it may be important to note that I keep a microfiber cloth with my unit and I use it frequently during the day.. I do not allow water spots to remain on the screen for very long)

we have a lexard on ours.  It was an easy install as well.  First season on it though but so far no complaints.
