I know even though they both say 5.5 the software upgrade is different code. that being said I had to upgrade both units for the Ethernet connection to work. So far this weekend out on the water no issues, Ive seen a couple posts about sonar being different, mine still looks the same. Now I dont use the screen capture or anything like that (dont know how) so im not sure in that area. I did find it odd that both has the 5.2 version and the Ethernet would not work until I upgraded to the 5.5 on both units. You would think HB would ship units that the software would work if they are trying to really advertise the "Ease of networking your units together" just sayin

Well Big E, the intention was to ship them with the correct Ethernet capable software but it was not ready in time and the advertisements had already gone out. So it was either not ship anyone their new unit that they had been waiting on or ship them and follow up with a software upgrade which they all could do. I don’t think that there are a high percentage of these buyers that use the Ethernet. Maybe those on this web site do but not overall.

Im sure like you said not a majority of people are using the Ethernet. When I brought up upgrading to the 5.5 software while on the phone with HB, the lady helping me said "yea lets try that" just found that odd. But in the end all is well so far. Next is to figure out the screenshot, although not a big deal if I dont use it. After the upgrade the networking was pretty easy, maybe more will use Ethernet in the future.

Edwardpic turn your unit on hit menu menu cursor all the way right to snapshots cursor down enable
exit out.hit your view select di, si, or sonar see something you want to look at hit mark you just took a
snapshot and marked a waypoint. Go back to snapshots an you can look at it or take the chip out an view it on
a third party viewer. Gary

Thanks Gary, I will put in a fresh SD card and try that. I can always go back n delete the waypoint, would be neat to save some shots to post here.

Yes....by all means show is the world. And dont forget you can put pictures in the gallery also..

Big E the first thing I do everytime I go out is put a fresh or a formatted card in and turn my snapshot on

Hi, I upgraded my 1198c with 5.5 code without any issues. I will try it out tomorrow nad see if everything still works.

Philip, Im going Tarpon fishing tomorrow, Love my dual set-up so far. Please let us know if you run into any issues. so far, fingers crossed both my units after upgrade as well as Ethernet are working well. Im using one transom mountes ducer, and since using the Ethernet I now have an Interlink and Thru hull transducer I have no use for.

I might have to return my unit for repair because of other problems. But the software upgrade works

One thing at a time right?...I have to send my 898 in also, the power button you have to fiddle with to shut down, turns on fine, just not power down easy. No biggie I'll next day air it to HB from my shop.

Mine is a bit difference , my 2D sonar & SI function are having issues since day one.... :'( Long story....
Since I live in Canada, I don't know how soon HB can replace my unit... ???

I just recieved my 998 and 958 back from hb. They had to fix them from the last update that screwed up. While they were gone I installed my ethernet cable in the boat. I just recieved them back and went out yesterday. The sonar 2d, down and side imaging all jump when they move across the screen. like once a secong. Is anyone else expeirencing this. They just seem to both operate so slow. ?????????????????????? Any one else had this problem.
