Title: How tough is the transducer on the trolling motor?

Hello all!

Went on my first tournament with my new 1198 and hit some pretty windy and rocky shores. Needless to say, I hit land more than a couple of time with my trolling motor, so my brand new trolling motor transducer got pretty scratched up.

Are these surface scratches nothing to worry about? Just part of the game? At what point would these marrings affect the actual performance of the transducer?

(I do have a steel transducer protector on it, so it's covered as much as it can be)

Probably no scratches are good for it.
I'd avoid all collisions if possible.

I'd say that if it's still working OK, then it's probably not internally damaged.
A crack in it would probably lead to eventual failure.

Greg would know alot more than most folks about it.

Minor scratches but not cracks will not hurt. 
HB has a specification on scratch depth and length...
Maybe Greg can get that for us....

I have hit my share of rock with an unprotected SI Transducers on my trolling motor.  The lake I fished in CA was nothing but rocks and occasionally the wind would surge and blow me against the shore.  So far I have not had any problems with my transducer.  The only issues I have heard of is some folks have hit hard enough to break the mounting bracket.

Any transducer I've ever had, has always ended up with scratches on them.   Nothing that I would call major gouging or anywhere near cracking.   I never noticed a difference in 2D, but wouldn't know exactly what specific details to look for.    I think the SI elements are more toward the side of the transducer, which seems not to attract as many scratches.
