If I were you, I'd contact Humminbird periodically to
check on the status of your unit.

Maybe it got lost or something.

Don't just sit around waiting and hoping.
Be proactive.

Rudiger,
Where did you send your 898 unit?
Was it sent to the factory in Eufaula, Alabama (U.S.A.)?
Like ITG said: I would contact them for an update.  It should never take that long to get a unit serviced and back to your door.

Hi Greg

After the Swedish HB service refused any services, I sent the unit to Allroundmarin to Vienna, the HB service for Germany.
A request for the status of my device was not really answered.

Sorry to hear that Rudiger, I would keep pestering them (Allroundmarin) until I got an answer.
Why did they refuse any services in Sweden?

Because I bought my unit in Germany via the Internet (cheaper and with German instructions).

I dont believe HB really supports international units very well. A lot of people have had issues with what ever the service is out there. And to send to HB in alabama costs a whole lot..It would be nice if you guys could get factory service.  HB needs to get on the dealers outside the USA and make them help you guys.
You should not have to fight the dealer alone...

I do not want to stir the pot, but there are lots of issues with overseas customer service.

Everyone

A Humminbird should be a humminbird and everyone deserves the same level of customer service!!!!

Humminbird needs to stand up to servicing everyone.  It should not matter where the unit is purchased from, Customer Service should treat everyone the same.

I wonder if Lowrance's customer service is any better overseas?

Do not get me wrong I am a diehard Humminbird fan, but I do not like it that HB does not treat the overseas customers very well.

It's very unfortunate, but people outside of the U.S. should really look into how they
are going to get warranty work, and service on their unit(s) before they
ever buy them.

In the end, if it has to be shipped to the U.S., and it costs a fortune to ship oversees,
then they may just be out of luck.

Service in Europe is terrible! You damn lucky that you are close to Alabama. We in Europe on the other side of the ocean experience persistent difficulties with warranty repairs. Greg to ask you on behalf of all members of this famous brand. Make a normal service center in Europe! Send to Alabama is very difficult and expensive. Spare parts and displays no. Fishermen stop believing the brand Humminbird and buy other brand fishfinders with normal support(Garmin,Lowrance).

Biggest problem us we have here in the backwater referred to as Australia in a massive price difference even with international models. I settled to buy in Australia paying $1275 for a 798cxi HDSI. This normally retails for $1500+ and has not dropped in price for over 12mths. I also received 2yrs warranty cover over the traditional one year.

I was not prepared to pay $1500 when I could purchase an 898CXI for the same price from OS. The only difference would be that if the product failed I would have to return it to the US for repairs. Given the price difference I could have afforded to return the prodcut at least 2 times before I was out of pocket.

Fortunately I was able to purchase the unit at a 15% off sale :)

Yes, you're right. Such terrible service at exorbitant prices at times!
See for yourself. Prices for models:
Humminbird 798cxi HD SI Combo = 1990 $
Humminbird 898 cx SI Combo = 2310 $
Humminbird 998 cx SI Combo = 3090 $

And therein lays one problem. For the last few years the Aus dollar has been either on parity or as been the case for the last 18mths above by around 3-5cents to the US dollar. We (Aussies) don't expect this to be the norm in the long term but for the foreseeable future this is the reality of the situation. I have also been told by a major fishing equipment supplier who stated that it also more expensive to do business in Australia. Accountancy is not my business so I cannot make comment on the this statement only to add that surely that cost wouldn't be thousands? We also have a smaller customer base which I understand but also add that 90% of Australians live on the coastal fringes of Australia.
Another problem appears from what resellers/retailers tell me are the prices the distributor charges. Below are the prices the distributors charges in Aus dollar:

Humminbird 798cxi HD SI Combo

$1,749.00

Humminbird 898CX Si Combo

$2,399.00

Humminbird 998CX SI

$3,199.00

Going to interesting on when, given we cannot get the ASPC 3 -usb connection in Australia, and to how much 360 will cost.

Here in Sweden does a 898CX SI currently 2764.38 U.S. dollars and in Germany 2641,64 U.S. dollar. Plenty expensive with so punk service.

Happy New Year :D

And the pricing problem is not because of the International units. Here in Canada, we have the International units and the prices are near US ones.

Look at that PDF : http://www.lebaron.ca/pdf_files_sp13/hum_800series.pdf

I looked at the pdf and only one unit was international, a 858. I have heard about Canadian backdoors to US prices before, but never seen any real proof for it. Do you have any other links to Canadian vendors with international units?

This is another vendor : http://www.latulippe.com/fr/produits/departements/peche/details.asp?sku=298493

Keep in mind that they don't show the International designation (x) on the model number but they are.
I have personally checked them at the store.

Here is another Canadian vendor with international units.  It is where I got my 998cx si.  Hope this helps.

Thanks guys!

The Canadian prices for a 998 unit seems to be about 20% below our prices, shipping, customs fee and VAT included. /Rickard

HB Service has informed me that my device only arrived on 10.12.2012 from Vienna.
This means that the device has been lying around my 3 months in Vienna unedited!
HB is also responsible for its service partners.

Hello All

Happy new year.

I had the same bad service from Hummingbird Denmark.

It took me almost 3 months to get information about the repair of my 797, they told that the unit was sent to the U.S., I doubt it.

Greetings

But in spite of this you still with this brand. It seems that the changes will not be this outrage. Sad to read this.:(

When my first unit passed away (due to water ingress and internal thunder storm...) a new unit arrived after about four weeks. I was told there could be a delay because they changed vendor at that time. This extra delay was a week long so I didn't feel that disappointed with how my case was handled. I think they sent for a new unit from the US as soon they found out it was damaged beyond repair.

Service center should be able to repair appliances or have an exchange fund for replacement. In other words, the user does not even have to wait a few weeks for a solution to your problem. This happens in normal service center. But unfortunately not in the service center of the Humminbird in Europe.
