Title: Chart Select tab
Post by: rdico on April 17, 2014, 12:29:34 PM
Now that I finally figured out how to get my Navionics Fish N chip chart to appear I have a new problem.
I cant toggle back to regular Nav map because the chart select tab disappears on my 597!
I have to remove the chip and re-insert it for the Chart select option to re-appear.
This is not practical on a kayak as the unit is going to be wet!

Why does this option disappear in the first place?
I'm in the full chart mode so I cant understand why I cant toggle back and forth.

I would ask the HB people. The manual does not have any info on that. Maybe someone knows your answer but a call to HB might be quicker. Bob

rdico,
What software version are you running on your 597 unit?
You may want to check this before you give the Humminbird CRC folks a call.

I'm using the latest version 6.640
When I power the unit down, and then back on, I lose my chart select tab altogether. If I unplug the card while the unit is on, and then re-insert it, the tab re appears and will stay on until I power down again.
I spoke to Hummingbird and they have no answer for me.
I'm going to check a friends unit and see if it behaves the same way.

My 998 I just bought does the same thing. I installed the 6.7 and no change. I can put it in simulator mode and it works as it should but that of course is useless. Called hbird cs and they said if it continued to be a problem to send it back to them. I have yet to send it back.

I just checked a friends identical 597 unit and it does the exact same thing.
The chart select tab is not visible until you unplug and re-insert card.

Clearly a software bug that Hummingbird has missed unless it's a coincidental occurrence which I highly doubt.

Just got off the phone with Hummingbird and believe it or not, they tell me to access "chart select" menu, you have to power the unit on, remove the card, and then plug the card back in.
I asked them if they ever tried that on a kayak in wet conditions.

"That's the way all the units were designed" was all I could get after explaining how crazy this was.

Wish I knew this before purchasing my unit.

that's funny. My 798 never had that issue. When I called customer service she said that was not normal. I guess it all depends on who talk to

A lot of people don't realize they have the problem because they don't need to toggle between charts and they assume it works just fine.
The unit does seem to power up in the last state which is a good thing.
On the Navionics plus chip, navigation buoys do not appear on the sonar charts so when you are done fishing and want the regular navigation charts, you have to access the Chart Select tab to switch.
I'd be willing to bet that if you went looking for the chart select tab, you wouldn't find it unless you plugged the chip in after the powering up of your unit.

rdico,
You could mark all the buoys with waypoints – they may be more accurate that way and they would always be shown regardless of which mapping card you are using.

I realize I can do that for my local area, but I also like to take my yak to new areas to fish and can't possibly do that for all the buoys that are already on the chip I bought but can't access.

Hummingbird desperately needs fix this huge oversight in in their software.

I have the same problem with a 1197c SI using a new Navionics Platinum+ card.  I am running 6.64.  Previous versions did not work like this.

I noticed today if I restore defaults the chart select tab will show up. Kinda sucks to have to that everytime

I haven't tried that, but either way, this is not acceptable.
I'm really hoping that Hummingbird gets on this glitch and fixes it with a software update.
