Title: Helix 9 SI GPS vs Helix 10 SI GPS
Post by: TonyH on July 19, 2016, 10:36:56 PM
Aside from the screen size and price, is there any difference between the two units?

HELIX 9 comes standard with the Compact SI xducer ...
HELIX 10 comes standard with the Hi-Def SI xducer ...

The Compact SI xducer with the HELIX 9 can be upgraded thru HB's xducer exchange program (if the xducer has not been used and the xducer mounting hardware bag has not been opened) ...

This exchange must be set up thru HB after purchasing the unit (HELIX 9 cannot be ordered with the HDSI xducer) ...

Should also add that the 10 has much higher resolution/pixel density = better images

I just got a Helix 9 SI. Used it the first time yesterday, mounted on my trolling moter, and the SI worked fine for about 2 hours and then nothing but noise. It came with a XNT 9 SI 180 T transducer. Should I have the XTM 9 HDSI 180 T? Will the one I have not work on the trolling motor? Wish I had seen the exchange program prior to my using it once. Shouldn't Hummingbird tell you in the specs that a different xducer is needed?

The XTM 9 HDSI 180 T and the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T are the same xducer ...

XTM 9 HDSI 180 T comes with a TM adapter and a hose clamp ...
XHS 9 HDSI 180 T comes with transom mounting hardware ...

Both have extra shielding for possible RF interference ...

HB is the best resource for dealing with RFI ... They work with customers every day with this issue ...

I appreciate the reply on the two transducers. Maybe I don't understand your reply but I have a XNT 9 SI 180 T. My question is, do I need the XTM 9 HDSI 180 T? I did get a Transducer Shield Saver for the one I have. So my question still is, do I need the XTM 9 HDSI 180 T? Also it seems to me like it would have been good for Humminbird to have included info on the need for a different transducer for a trolling motor mount with the paperwork that came with the unit. I think that now since I installed the transducer and used it once, I no longer qualify for their exchange program. I guess that is what I have a problem with since the cost of a new transducer is pretty sizable being I am retired and on a limited budget. But ultimately, whatever I have to do, my goal is to have a solid working unit like I know the Humminbirds are capable of.
I know I need to call Humminbird. Is the 800 number you listed the one I need to call?

The HDSI would definitely be an upgrade from the Compact SI with your HELIX 9 ..

Not only would it allow your HELIX 9 to utilize the added 800kHz imaging frequency ... It would also give somewhat sharper images due to the longer SI piezos in the HDSI xducer ...

The upgrade is not a necessity ... Just an option ...

If it's for a TM application ...you may as well get the XTM 9 HDSI 180 T which would have the correct mounting hardware for the TM ...
