which is almost exactly the problem I just discovered.
My unit 997 c SI (bought it new) is 5 years old. Yes it's registered at HB. The left card slot doesn't work - the unit says "no sd card found" when I try a screen shot. The Right slot has just decided to not let the card go all the way in. It has to be sticking out about 1/4" in order to have the unit see it.
This is the first problem that I have ever had with it in any way. Tried different cards, tried re-loading updates, but am convinced that it is a card reader problem.
Here is the thing - I'm good with electronics and I'm NOT good with sending this thing to HB and getting a big bill to repair it.
However, if I open it up and attempt to find the problem and fix it - and it goes south on me - will HB support decide that since I tried - they won't.
Has anyone opened their 997 and cleaned, repaired, or anything to their card slots?
Any advice is appreciated.

Couple more things. I know that it's out of warranty and HB is not liable to repair it in any way. No problem there at all.
I just hate to send it in if this is an easy problem to fix - like dirt or corrosion.

Does your left card slot not work completely or just intermittently? Have you tried my trick? Insert the SD card and maybe wedge a small piece of thick stock paper to ensure good contact against the card/reader pins.

Was that your post I referenced? Good post. No I didn't try the card trick but I will. The left slot doesn't see a card but I haven't tried the card trick there either.
Did you ever get your repaired or is the card trick still working great?

I had the slots repaired which costed me ~250 and it didn't really fix anything. I still "shim" my cards to make sure it makes good contact.

Locdown I tried the card trick and it worked on the right slot. The left slot still doesn't work but one slot is good enough for me.

Post like this is part of what makes this site so awesome. I ran into this exact problem (left card slot) on the water today and was thinking to myself I hope there is an easy fix as my unit is out of warranty. I put a piece of card stock on the outside of the slot, insert the card, and reader works again. Just saved me 200 plus bucks. I have some ideas to make the fix more permanent but for the near future I am going to let sleeping dogs lie. I use a micro sd card so I will just take that out of the adapter when I need to retrieve the data. Thanks again LocDown!!!!!
