« on: March 26, 2011, 08:53:59 PM »
Purchasing a 798 and was wondering with the setback with no jackplate the best mounting location. Will also be purchasing a thru hull transducer as well.
Thanks

Look thru the image gallery and the installations.  You can also search using the tab at the top.
Spend some search time as the HB transducers especially the bigger ones like the HBSI do cause display problems or rather loss of display or speed or depth. They are sensitive to placement and boat hull type.
There are many hits on this forum about loss of signal above trolling speeds.

Thanks Chuck.  The more I read it seems that the best setup is a 2 transducer set up.  With the large setback on my ranger, i should be able to mount the si near the drain plug.  The other I will glass in next to where the old one was i think. Thanks again

JJ, I think a lot of the guys are running the two xducer setup...If you expoxy the thru the hull, check a bit of the postings about the same.  It is important to get a good epoxy and to make sure there is (are) no bubbles. If you expoy....sand away any paint first....
