Google Earth
« on: July 14, 2015, 07:32:10 AM »
Can google earth somehow become a background map on a ONIX unit?

We in South Africa have no maps, so to have a google earth overlay would help very much?

Thanks

Ian

You may opt to use a program called Autochart or Autochart Pro Africa and you can create your own custom contour maps.  You would make recordings on the Onix unit and then load them into the program or you can use Autochart live with a Zeroline card for Africa.

OK, I understand that, but is there no way to get a background map that can show google earth? In other words, I cant take a zoomed in map of a lake and then put that onto the zero line card?

almost like having google earth on your onix as a backround map instead of say contours?

Thaks

32°15'51.49" S  18°55'34.71" E

Punch these waypoints into google earth or search Clanwilliam Dam South Africa.
Now when dam water level is low, you can see the structure, but when high, you can only see water.

I want that low water image as a map as my background overlay

Is this possible?

its currently not possible on your Onix. But with autochart i think you can use it as a background on your laptop.

What format would a background map have to be to run on those zeroline cards?

It won't run on your zeroline card. Only within Autochart pro on your laptop. Download the Autochart pro manual. I think it has more  info on this.
