Title: 898c SI transducer
Post by: Beardog on March 24, 2010, 11:33:52 PM
This is my first post on this site. WOW what a great forum!!!
I ordered my 898c SI on the 15th, it was back-ordered, I was told I should get it early next week.
I do have a few questions.
1)  Will I have to update the software after I register my 898?

2)  I have fiberglass I/O boat, I know that the transducer has to have an unobstructed side to side view,
but I'm not sure if there is room for it between the outdrive and the transom. Or can it be off set by a few inches?

3)  Is there a Thru Hull Transducer or Shoot Through Hull Transducer that will work for a 898c SI that does not cost $450 and that will work in 800 kHz for high definition.
Thanks for any help or comments.

Your software should be up to date since its fresh from the factory.  You may even have newer version than whats available for download if they have made any changes.

I would post some pictures of your transom for us.  Take one or two from the back straight on, then from the side looking across the bottom to give us an idea of what things look like.

You can purchase a thru hull transducer for around $200.  You cannot install the the SI transducers as an in-hull transducer (shoot thru hull).  The SI just doesn't work well since its shooting out to the sides.

Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for the compliment on the forum.  :)
