Title: AS-360 Interference and wiring
Post by: promapper on May 17, 2013, 12:32:16 PM
The AS-360 power lead is only 6 feet long and calls for a switch and fuse to be mounted in line with the battery as it calls for the AS-360 to be wired to the cranking battery as it is the 12V that keeps the unit retracted.  I added an optional indicator light on the dash panel which also means I spliced and ran a pair of 14 ga twisted pair wire from the battery to the dash panel.

Questions.
I believe the power lead of the 360 is shielded.  Should I have used shielded wire to install the battery and fuse and switch?
Should the ground side of this cranking battery be grounded to the aluminum boat?  I can not find any place where it is unless through the motor!
Should the trolling motor battery negative side also be grounded to the boat?
the trolling motor battery is only used for the trolling motor but it is connected to a dual bank battery charger which also charges the cranking battery.  do you think the charger adequately isolates any interference from the trolling motor?

Thanks

DO NOT EVER GROUND ANYTHING TO YOUR BOAT'S HULL.
A boat is not like a car, where you can ground everything to
the frame and body.

Electrolysis will eat your boat metal away, especially
in salt water.

mnmciver,

Just a question concerning your interference photos.  Do you have any other sonar units or transducers running on the boat even if on another unit?

I have to turn my console sonar off because it will affect the 360 image similar to what is shown above.
