Title: Should I replace my two year old Helix 7SI with a Helix 9 Chirp MEGA SI GPS G2N?
Post by: rod_mct on July 07, 2018, 08:58:56 AM
I have a two year old Helix 7si which I like other than being disappointed with the side scan performance in anything deeper than 10 feet. Typically I fish between 50 and 100 feet.
The Helix 9 Chirp MEGA DI GPS G2N looks like it might be worth upgrading to.
Is it???????

While the MEGA (1200kHz) imaging is best utilized in shallower water - there's still the options of using the 455kHz and 800kHz imaging (and their respective CHIRP sweep ranges)  ...

That's a lot more versatility than the Helix 7 SI  ...

Thanks Rickie!
Versatility is only of interest to me if it also gives me better performance in terms of truly more image detail and or higher screen resolution.
I have read that the new second generation Helix (9 inch or bigger) could give me as much as 3 times more detail.
I am hoping that somebody can confirm whether that is true in a real world application.......not just in Demo Mode.
Best regards
