581 hd wide side

I called HB the other day and they confirmed that I could hook up my XTM-WS Wide Side transducer to the 581, and exclaimed it would "automatically sense it, and offer the necessary settings."  So, I ordered a replacer (new) WS and hooked it up.... all I get is erratic depths and no menu selections to help.  What are the supposed menu declarations to make the WS work? 

Note, the 581 transducer works fine but I had the WS lying around to scan for fish L&R, so figured to trial it after HB confirmation.
