797 Software Upgrade

(1/1)

Blackwaterkatz:
Man, I'm in a quandary.  I've tried both version a couple of times, and just can't make up my mind which I like better.  The side imaging seems to be darker with the newer version; hard to see, and I just can't seem to get it quite where I'd like to be.  On the other hand, it is nice to be able to turn TVG on or off.
Right now I'm back to the old version, though.  I guess since I started out with it, it seems a little simpler to use.
What are the opinions of other 797 users?

Blackwaterkatz:
Here are two screen shots, taken at the same place; the first is with version 4.180, second with 4.510.  I could have probably made both better, but the water was rough, so I made a pass with each version; same auto settings, no si enhance.

RGecy:
Are these two separate recordings?  Or the same recording, just one is the same file after you upgraded the software?

I don't think much is going to change with the playback of sonar files on the PC.  The new updates are mainly post processing, filters, etc that do not affect the raw data as it is recorded.  It changes on playback according to the settings you have.

Humminbird_Greg:
With the newer 4.510 software the Si Sensitivity was 'shifted down' (for lack of a better term) two setting levels.  So the old default setting of 10 on the old software is now about a 12 on the new software.  This gives you more low end adjustability where it is needed more.

They are two separate recordings, Robert.  I tried to duplicate everything on each pass.
Greg, thanks for that post; I hadn't heard that explanation before.  I still want to do some more comparisons before I come set on which version I like better, but I need a calmer day to do it, and more time.
