Transducer mounting on an old boat

(1/1)

Jolly Roger:
Hi all,

after weeks of scratching my head and getting advice from Robert and others, thinking about pros and cons, setting up plans and scratch them off again, I post a picture of the transom of my boat and what I'm planning to do.

The boat is a VICTORIA 27, proudly made in GERMANY in 1971 by a boatyard that went bankrupt in the late 70s. After all the trouble I had with it, I know why now  ;D. It's a fiberglass hull and has two VOLVO PENTA AQ 115 inboard engines with AQ 100 Z-Drives.

The location where the transducer is temporarily mounted on the picture is where the transducer of the former fishfinder was placed. To the right of the transducer the keel, the Z-Drives and the exhaust are blocking or disturbing a clean shot for the sonar beam.

To get good sight to both sides I want to cut out a pocket of the keel, srew and laminate a jackplate there and screw the transducer onto it.
As an alternative to this I thought to mount a horizontal bracket to the hull instead of cutting out the pocket of the keel.

What would you do in my shoes?
