No fish shadows on bottom?

(1/1)

baribal:
Hallo to everybody, I am new member from Slovenia, Europe.
I bought the 1197 c last year and I use it in 15-25 meter of salt water . I can se correctly the bottom on my left and right side, but not the fish. I can see the fish only in the black part of the immage (column under the boat). I never saw the fish on the left or right side, even the shadows of fish on the bottom.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance.

baribal,

Welcome to the forum.

Here are a couple factors that are important when looking for fish on the Side Imaging unit.  If the range is too wide, the fish will be smaller on the display and harder to see.  So the size of the fish will also affect how they appear on the SI image.  You also need to keep your boat speed around 3-4mph and your chart speed around 5-6.  These settings should produce pretty good results.

It would help to post some snapshots of your images so we can see what you are recording and details about the image.  Sometimes, the fish are there, you just might not know what you are seeing!

Here is a snapshot of a school of fish.  Notice the range at 75' and the speed at 3 mph.  This was a school of mullet that the fish were around 1' to 1.5' in length.

I noticed that to adjust your chart speed correctly if you find a bouy with a cable or chain and you pass by it it will appear slanted forward or back if your too slow or too fast. Match the speed of the boat with the chart speed until the cable appears to be strait up and down in the black center part of the screen. (or the image from the suface to the bottom)
