Title: 797 extension cable: will it work on a 898?
Post by: PT on June 17, 2012, 08:30:05 AM
I've just upgraded to an 898si and I'm wondering whether my 797 extension cable and transducer will work on the 898?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Peter

What is the extension cable for Peter?
Do you know a part number?

The 797’s transducer will work for the 2D sonar and for the 455kHz Si sonar but not for the 800kHz Si sonar on the 898c Si unit.  Plus I doubt that you would be happy with the 455kHz Si sonar on your 898c Si unit with the smaller Compact Side Imaging transducer of the 797 unit as it will be at a lesser resolution.

Greg,

I'd built an extension for the 797 some years ago by cutting and joining 3 x 10 metre extension cables. It worked quite well (providing that it was close to the seabed) and achieved some good results. I will no doubt buy another transducer for the 898 and extend that with Cat6 pimf. Is there a recommended maximum length using Cat6?

Thanks for your advise.

Best regards

Peter

Thanks Roddy.

I originally had my 797 transducer cable extended with the HB extensions as I could only buy a 200 metre roll of Cat6. Is there a supplier who would ship 60 metres of Cat8 to Australia?

Regards

Peter
