Title: Helix 7 MegaDI gen4
Post by: Jw452 on January 06, 2022, 11:25:49 AM
My unit has two forward facing micro-SD slots.  Why, and what is the most efficient use for them?

Most use one card slot for a mapping card which provides better detail than the built in mapping feature  ... Humminbird units can use LakeMaster or Navionics mapping card products  ...

Some use a second card slot for using a blank SD Card (32gb max) for capturing screenshots  ... (screenshots are written directly to a SD Card and not stored in a HELIX unit memory)  ...

Thank you for the reply. I’m still reading the 350 page manual, but I have yet to find answers.  I’m still wondering if it matters which slot is used for mapping discs, and which is for screenshots; Or will the unit give me a choice if I try to save a screenshot.  I’m sure more experience will teach me. Thanks, again

I do know it doesn’t matter which slot is used for a mapping card  ... the unit will recognize the mapping card  ...

I do know that if only a blank SD Card is inserted - screenshots will be saved to the blank SD Card  ...

I do know that units that have 2 full size SD Card slots - the mapping card itself has a slide lock that prevents writing screenshots to that mapping card  ...

I do know that micro SD Cards do not have a slide lock feature  ...

I’m not sure how the unit reacts with screenshots when a micro mapping card and a blank micro SD Card are inserted  ... I’m fairly certain one of the card slots is “default” in this scenario  ...

I will test and see if I can discern  ...

Here are the results of testing dual SD Card slots  ...

*Left card slot - map card  ... Right card slot - blank SD Card = ScreenShot goes to Left map card  ...

*Left card slot - blank SD Card  ... Right card slot - map card = ScreenShot goes to Left blank SD Card  ...

*Left card slot - empty  ... Right card slot - blank SD Card = ScreenShot goes to Right blank SD Card  ...

*Left card slot - blank SD Card  ... Right card slot empty = ScreenShot goes to Left blank SD Card  ...

Meaning = map card should go in the Right card slot to prevent ScreenShots from “accidentally” being written to the map card  ...
——-

Note - if one “accidentally” writes a ScreenShot to an unlocked map card  ... simply open the SD Card in PC or Mac and DELETE the “SCREENSHOT” folder  ...
