Fishing Tournament for Wounded/Disabled Soldiers @ Toledo Bend
« on: November 27, 2013, 12:56:29 AM »
Fishing For Freedom-Toledo Bend is looking for volunteer boaters (and sponsors) for the 2nd annual Fishing For Freedom Tournament on Toledo Bend to be held out of the Ft. Polk MWR recreation center (on the SE side of Toledo Bend) on 15 March 2014.  This is a no-entry fee tournament designed to take wounded/disabled soldiers & veteran's in the back of our boats for day of "friendly" competition.  The sole purpose of this tournament is to be a benefit for these soldiers by providing them an opportunity to relax and recoup from their combat experiences and injuries while spending a day on the water in a Pro-Am Bass Tournament environment.

Trophies will be awarded to the top 6 teams, along with trophies for the 1st & 2nd place Big Bass of the tournament, and also a trophy for the Biggest "Junk" Fish caught.  We will have soldiers who have very little fishing experience, all the way to many who know Toledo Bend very well.  A pre-tournament meeting is scheduled the Friday evening before where we will register, then feed everyone, pair up the teams, and hand out door prizes and gifts; Dave Mansue (former president of the Professional Anglers Association-PAA) will be our Guest Speaker, and will also be a volunteer boater again this year.

If you have any interest, or would like to volunteer in any capacity, please contact me.  I will try to post more details and a website to pre-register ASAP.  I can tell you from personal experience that the smiles on these soldiers faces is absolutely priceless, and the friendships made are long-lasting!  I hope you can join in on the activities and the fun, and help these Hero's have an opportunity recover from their traumatic combat experiences....
