Question on Cabelas add for 798ci si (no navionics)
« on: December 27, 2011, 07:38:31 PM »
I see C has this unit on sale right now, but am confused by the add that says it comes w/ no navionics.  These units all have SD slots for navionics hotmaps don't they.  I currently have a 798c si at console interlinked w/ 727.  I have a couple of the map cards already and want to be able to use them on that unit.  I want to replace the 727 w/ 798ci si unit, but want the navionics capability.  Am I just not understanding the add?

It looks like Cabelas sells the 798 with a Navionics bundle that includes Navionics Gold and Hotmaps premium.  This model does not include that bundle.

All 798's have dual sd card slots and can utilize Navionics and Lakemaster chips....check Navionics website for compatability to various versions of their mapping products.

A little caution, this sale model ($759) looks like the 2010 version of the 798 ci si.  It would be worth calling them an asking if this unit has the ethernet port or not.  If this is the 2010 model, it was on sale about a year ago for $699 when the new model was announced.....kind of surprised they still have this in stock.

The 798 that has ethernet would be the 798ci si hd.

Humminbird is heading quickly toward the ethernet communications for future expandability.  If you think you might ever have a second unit you want to connect to, or want to take advantage of some of the new devices coming out for 2012 that use the ethernet hub, you may want to make sure it isn't the old model.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

Thanks Bob.  Do you know if the ethernet models will also support the interlink?  I currently have my two units interlinked and would buy an ethernet model for the bow if it will also function over the interlink.

The Ethernet models we now make do support the use of the InterLink.  In particular that 798ci HD Si model that Bob B mentioned does support the use of an InterLink or Ethernet (not both at the same time).

I just purchased this unit. It is not an HD model and does not work with ethernet. As far as the Navionics, all that ad means is the bundle is not already programed into the unit. You will have to buy the maps seperately.

OK.  Thanks guys.  Sounds like it might be best for me to anti up the extra for the Hd model w/ the ethernet so I can utilize that in the future.
