Title: Benefit of Direct Connection?
Post by: jnordyke on February 04, 2015, 05:24:13 PM
With info from here I just made up a black box with Ac to 12v and power cable to run my 998 in the house.  Next step I suppose would be to connect unit to my PC but as I'm just getting started I'm not sure of the benefits / risks (like corrupting the unit).  If I do cable up I assume I'd be able to edit waypoints while they are still on unit using HumminbirdPC without having to export, etc., but don't know if that is actually a good idea to do or not?  What other capabilities am I missing out on if I don't connect to my PC?  Advice much appreciated!

I have the cable to connect to my PC......but don't use it.  I generally just use an SD card to do software updates or manage waypoints.....I like to have extra backup on the SD card anyway......Can't have too many backups.

download Humminbird PC for your waypiont management. On the Humminbird.com site where you registered your unit. Bob

You are not missing out on anything.  Anything that you can do with a direct connect cable in HumminbirdPC you can do with an SD card.
