Title: 787 and HDSI transducer
Post by: reddog on March 23, 2010, 03:27:49 PM
I have a787 up front, but had the opportunity to use a 1197 up front(temporarily). I changed out the transducers from my 2D 787 to the HDSI transducer.  My question is this,  Can I plug my 787  into the HDSi for 2 d sonar and leave the HDSI rigged while waiting for my new unit up front, or do I need to change it out again back to the QT90?

Just leave the HDSi transducer up there Reddog.  The 787 unit will only use the 2D elements inside the transducer which are the same ones we use in the standard DualBeam 200/83kHz transducers.  Now if you had the QuadraBeam up there try looking at what it shows with the HDSi transducer.  Not going to be Si sonar or QuadraBeam sonar per se but it is interesting to look at…

Thanks Greg,

I thought (or hoped) that to be the case that I could leave it.

I just installed the Quadrabeam last week.  Was kinda  disappointed in what it showed me, or at least in the menus regarding its uses.  The bottom thickness was considerably different consistently from one side to the other for some reason.  With the 3way split screen for the quadrabeam, it gets real small trying to decipher whats in the two lower windows.

Maybe a menu item to have a full screen side  view would help.  Quite frankly, for me, 2d sonar is a thing of the past.  Everything I wanna see in 2D  comes in loud and clear in the water column on my 997/HDSI.   You guys rock!

I think I sold 4 or 5 units for you guys this last weekend after having them in the boat for a couple hours.  Ive had mine going into my 2nd year, and I still learn more things it excells at every trip out.

After using an 1197, I have a serious case of screen envy going on though. Anybody know of a cure? ;D

Reddog,
Yeah the three way split Quad Beam View gets kind of small.  If the readings are different thicknesses from the left to right I would first make sure that I was over a fairly level area.  Than make sure that the transducer is level with the surface of the water.  Any differences in the angle that the sonar reflects off of the bottom can make a change in the thickness you see on the screen.

Did you take a look at the Quad Layout menu?  There are two other screen configurations you can select from with the QuadraBeam.  You may like the “Slanted” menu option better.

Screen envy cure?  The only two cures I know of are either to buy an 1197c Si unit or wait for the much larger 5297c Si unit that will be coming out on April 1st (April Fool’s day!).  LOL!  ;D

Easy there Chuck.  That is the same 5297c Si unit that has the 52 inch plasma screen with the new GR1000 GPS Receiver, Dolby surround system, DVD player and back massager, that I post about every year on April 1st (April Fools Day).  I’m just getting warmed up a littler earlier than usual this year!
 ;D ;D ;D

Whaaaaat???  :o

The new 5297 comes WITHOUT the coffee option????
Even the new 1mm accuracy GPS is senseless if I only know my exact position is a coffeeless position  ??? !

I'LL STICK TO MY 981 THEN!!

(nearly fooled) Harry  ;D
